Below is a guide to our prescription fees, pharmacist services, vaccinations, injections and travel health services.

Funding, eligibility and clinical criteria may apply. Some medicine costs are additional to the consultation fee.

Prescription Fees

Public Prescriptions

For prescriptions issued through the public sector, including GPs and public hospitals:

  • Ages 14–64: $5 per prescription item

  • Children under 14: Free

  • Adults 65 years and over: Free

Specialist, Dentist and Private Prescriptions

  • Standard: $15 per prescription item

  • Community Services Card holders: $10 per prescription item

Prescription Subsidy Card

Once an eligible family reaches 20 prescription items within the prescription year, eligible prescription fees are waived for the remainder of that year.

The prescription year resets on 1 February each year.

Parents and dependent children under 18 are counted as one family.

For a family using only standard $5 public prescription items, this means a maximum of $100 in eligible prescription charges per prescription year before the subsidy applies.

Pharmacist Consultations & Medicine Supply

Emergency Contraceptive Pill

  • Non-CSC: $35

  • CSC: $30

  • Under 25 years: Free under current Extended Pharmacy Services funding

Eligibility criteria apply.

Sildenafil Consultation

$35 pharmacist consultation

Available for eligible men aged 35–70 years.

A pharmacist consultation is required before supply. Medicine supplied is not funded and is charged separately.

Smoking Cessation

  • Initial pharmacist consultation: $25

  • 3-monthly follow-up consultation: $15

Prescription fees may also apply where relevant.

Pharmacist Standing Order Consultations

$45 pharmacist consultation

Available for:

  • Recurrent herpes

  • Shingles

  • Minor skin infections

  • Wegovy initiation

Medicine costs are additional and usually fall between approximately $15–$30, depending on the medicine supplied.

Wegovy: Pharmacist initiation consultation $45. Wegovy 0.25 mg initiation dose $365. Further doses may vary in price.

Urinary Tract Infection

Usual pharmacist consultation: $45

Currently subsidised under Extended Pharmacy Services:

  • Non-CSC: $20

  • CSC: $5

Eligibility criteria apply.

Strep A Throat Test

$60

Includes pharmacist consultation, Strep A throat swab and antibiotic treatment if positive.

Additional extended family members requiring antibiotic treatment: $15 each

Clinical eligibility criteria apply.

Medical Certificates

  • Adults: $30

  • Children: $15

Medical certificates may be issued for up to 5 days where deemed clinically appropriate by the pharmacist.

Injections & Routine Vaccinations

Vitamin B12 Injection

$25

If you do not have your own B12 vial: +$5 per vial

Boostrix / Tdap

$70 if not funded

Boostrix may be funded for some eligible people. Booster timing is generally around 5–10 years, depending on clinical circumstances and vaccination history.

COVID-19 Vaccine

Funded for eligible patients

Eligibility and booster intervals depend on current national vaccination guidance.

Influenza Vaccine

Private vaccine pricing varies depending on the vaccine brand and current season.

Funded influenza vaccination is available for eligible patients during the funded influenza programme.

HPV Vaccine

$270 per dose if not funded

Funding is available for eligible people.

Where a three-dose course is required, doses are generally given at 0, 2 and 6 months.

Meningococcal B Vaccine

$180 per dose if not funded

Funding is available for some eligible people aged 13–25 years, including certain people entering or living in specified close-living accommodation.

Typical course: 2 doses, 8 weeks apart

Meningococcal ACWY Vaccine

$175 per dose if not funded

Funding is available for some eligible people aged 13–25 years in specified close-living accommodation.

A single dose generally provides protection for several years.

MMR Vaccine

Available for eligible patients who require MMR vaccination.

A typical course is 2 doses, at least 4 weeks apart.

MMR is a live vaccine and is not suitable for some people, including during pregnancy and for certain immunocompromised patients.

Shingrix

$390 per dose if not funded

Funded for eligible people aged 65 years under current funding criteria.

Course: 2 doses, generally 2–6 months apart

Travel Clinic

Travel Consultation

One traveller: $80

Includes a full travel consultation of approximately 30 minutes.

Second traveller: +$40

Available when the second person is attending the same booking and has the same destination and travel plans.

Single-item travel consultation: $40

A shorter consultation may be available for experienced travellers who only require assessment for one travel-health item.

Vaccines and medicines are charged separately.

Travel Vaccinations

Hepatitis A Vaccine

$120 per dose

Usually 2 doses, 6–12 months apart.

Typhoid Vaccine

$110 per dose

Ideally administered at least 14 days before travel. One dose generally provides protection for approximately 3 years.

Oral Cholera Vaccine

$95 per dose

Usually 2 doses, 1–6 weeks apart.

Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine

$219 per dose

May be recommended depending on destination, duration of travel and activities.

Rabies Vaccine

$189 per dose

Pre-exposure vaccination may be recommended depending on destination and travel risk.

Boostrix / Tdap

$70 if not funded

May be recommended for travellers depending on previous vaccination history and destination.

Other routine vaccines including COVID-19 and influenza may also be recommended as part of a travel consultation.

Travel Medicines

Travel medicines are supplied following pharmacist assessment where clinically appropriate.

Azithromycin

$20

May be supplied for traveller's diarrhoea where appropriate.

Doxycycline

$20

May be supplied for malaria prevention where appropriate.

Loperamide

$15

May be supplied for diarrhoea management where appropriate.
